Tetris Couldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony โ€” Another Award Type Could Fix That

Each time a prominent prize-giving event nears, one notices a clamor for introducing additional classifications to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and satisfy the spirits of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. The same goes for tabletop games, which is a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward because like all dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification for why my demand stands as crucial above others. This is the request: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it remains highly personal, and inevitably generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. Thereโ€™s a reason cinema institutions donโ€™t do it. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise in the world of gaming, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these award types actually cover numerous genres, making space possible for numerous titles.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to put them. Think about these outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles of one title, intense tile-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. Which classification works among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens outstanding logic titles published annually that have no home during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition for anything that year
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations in 2019
  • Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment in 2021
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're modest productions, but the art behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most popular titles worldwide continuing this trend for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with well-known building titles claiming status as highest-selling title ever; itโ€™s also in the running for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, while interacting with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. One could readily select a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble โ€” perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers are working at the demanding boundary game development, developing some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay generations.
